Listed Buildings

This screen shows listed buildings within approximately 5 kilometres of the property location using the National Heritage List for England. It helps identify nearby designated heritage assets that may be relevant to the wider setting of the property.

Purpose of this screen

The Listed Buildings screen displays nearby listed buildings on the map and in a searchable results list. Each result includes the listed building name, its National Heritage List for England entry and its grade.

Listed-building grades include:

• Grade I — buildings of exceptional interest
• Grade II* — particularly important buildings of more than special interest
• Grade II — buildings of special interest

How to use this screen

1. Review the property marker and the surrounding 5 kilometre search area.
2. Use the map to see the distribution of listed buildings nearby.
3. Review the listed-building results alongside the map.
4. Enter a name in the filter box to find a particular heritage asset.
5. Use the grade filter to narrow the results.
6. Add relevant commentary in the text box below the map.
7. Select AI Suggestion for help drafting wording, where available.
8. Select Save Report to include your approved commentary in the report.

Understanding the results

The results identify designated listed buildings within the selected distance of the property. They are useful for understanding the heritage context of the local area, but the presence of a listed building nearby does not, by itself, mean that the subject property is listed or subject to heritage restrictions.

A nearby listed building may be relevant where the property is in its setting, lies within a conservation area, or where proposed alteration or development could affect the significance of a heritage asset. Further assessment may be needed in these circumstances.

Important distinction

This search is a proximity-based guide, not a formal heritage assessment. It does not confirm the property’s own designation, conservation-area status, curtilage listing, planning constraints or the need for listed building consent.

This screen only adds listed-building information and commentary to the report when text is entered and saved. If no commentary is provided, neither the results nor related commentary will be included.

Why this matters

Historic assets can influence planning, alteration, redevelopment and the character of the surrounding area. Reviewing nearby listed buildings helps identify potential heritage considerations early, so that appropriate caveats or recommendations for further enquiries can be included in the report.
